Who better to contribute to this rag, I mean blog. It is I who built a good portion of this NV complex. My file(s) are legend. They occupy several feet of the medical file storage shelves around the office. Many are carved on stone tablets.
Dr. Belgiano and I go back some thirty years to a time when I was a cantankerous 40 something. This was when the offices were located at a log cabin on Union Lake Road. Years (many) ago I decided to see Dr. B after my BP or Hypertension had shot up in Jackie Gleason terms - “to the moon.”(I learned those med terms from the Doctor. Actually I saw the doctor because my wife threatened me with bodily harm or worse if I failed to take action.
Before that I called it High Blood Pressure. Grandma had it- and she treated her condition with leeches. In any event, my BP was something like 220 over 180. The office went into emergency mode and I was not allowed to leave the office until those numbers were brought to some semblance of normal. It took a couple of hours but the doctor and his team’s efforts were successful. That began a long term relationship that I half kiddingly claim, saved my life.
The benefits of long terms relationships are in the talented gracious people who I have encountered here at the Clinic. They have become part of my extended care team that feel a responsibility for me. From Dr. B to Dr. Taweel, Dr. Guido and the wonderful nurses, technicians and front desk miracle workers, this is an incredible group.
As dramatic as it sounded, that week, with Doctor Belgiano’s help I was able to come to terms with my issues and control my statistics. We worked together to keep my system in order and implemented a routine of follow ups and exams meant to keep my body and I on the straight and narrow. Thirty something years later, I am still kicking - not as high but kicking none the less.
Over the years, I have had more than my share of medical incidents, repairs and adjustments. Dr. Belgiano took an interest in all my aches and pains and various medical issues from the flu and cold remedies to prolotherapy for muscle pain. He has prescribed physical therapy and has explored where no man has dared. He has advised, and has been there at my bedside at Huron Valley when my appendix burst the night before my daughter's wedding. He monitors my meds and advises without preaching. I hope he doesn’t read this. He blushes easily.
If it were not for him, I would still be using leeches and home remedies to treat everything - just like grandma did 100 years ago.
You will hear more from this corner in the next edition, where I will give you my version of medicine my way. It’s a scary thought.
Until next time,
Ernie K from his corner.
